Suffolk Construction, the contractor for the South Station Air Rights Project, will continue daytime and overnight construction at South Station.
Please allow extra time (5 – 10 minutes) as you get used to new construction zones and paths of travel at the station. Trains might arrive and depart on a different track than what is typical. Be sure to check your track number before boarding.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY ON TRACK AND PLATFORMS
Starting the week of November 22, the station doors that provide access to Tracks 1 and 2 will be under construction. While they are being replaced, passengers will need to use Doors 3-8 to access the outdoor concourse and platforms.
The contractor has completed the work to shorten tracks 1 through 10. Trains on these tracks now stop approximately one to two coach lengths farther away from the sliding entrance doors to the station. The contractor will soon begin to infill the sections of track no longer in use, which is the next step in expanding the outdoor concourse area. This will provide increased space for passenger circulation and establishment of the Tower Work Zone. Some minor adjustments to track infrastructure will be completed in the next two weeks at the ends of tracks 11 & 12.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY IN SOUTH STATION
Some of the kiosks within South Station are in the process of relocating. This relocation should be complete before the end of the year.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY ON THE OUTDOOR OVERHEAD CANOPY
The canopy structure has been demolished, with the exception of a beam that runs along the doors between South Station and the outdoor concourse area. This beam will be removed at night in the coming weeks. Passengers may experience re-routing around temporary work areas at night while this work is being completed.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY IN ATLANTIC AVENUE AREA
Beginning Wednesday, November 18, pedestrian access from Atlantic Avenue to the outdoor concourse area will be closing temporarily, as the Atlantic Avenue construction area expands. The ramp from Atlantic Avenue to the outdoor concourse will remain open, except for some short, 5 to 10 minute periods during the second week of work. During these ramp closures, staff will be onsite to direct passengers.
Passersby may also notice demolition work in the Atlantic Avenue Work Zone. Work will be performed behind construction barriers.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY NEAR THE BUS TERMINAL
The contractor is working at night at the Bus Terminal level of the parking deck to survey and evaluate existing conditions above the bus drive lane.

Work in this area is being performed behind construction barriers. Pedestrian travel will be maintained at all times and clearly delineated. Access to CharlieCard validators used for the Fairmount Line will also be maintained.
