Suffolk Construction, the contractor for the South Station Air Rights Project, will continue daytime and overnight construction at South Station.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY ON TRACK AND PLATFORMS
Last week, the contractor began work to shorten the tracks, beginning with Tracks 1 and 2. Trains on Tracks 1 and 2 now stop approximately one coach length farther away from the sliding entrance doors to the station. As trains will stop farther from the station, passengers should plan to arrive five minutes earlier for departing trains. The shortening for Tracks 3 and 4 will begin the night of Friday, July 17.
This work will be continued for the other tracks throughout the summer. Once the track work is complete in the fall, the tracks can be infilled and the outdoor concourse area expanded, which will allow for increased space for passenger circulation and the establishment of the Tower Work Zone.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY ON THE OUTDOOR OVERHEAD CANOPY
Beginning next week, the contractor will be working at night to remove plaster from the underside of the overhead canopy that extends from the station over the outdoor concourse area. This work will occur at night, and some passengers may experience re-routing around temporary work areas.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY IN ATLANTIC AVENUE AREA
Construction of the new ramp on Atlantic Avenue is now complete. The older ramp has been closed and will be demolished soon.
The Atlantic Avenue work zone has been expanded to the north, closer to the station.
During the next few weeks, passersby may notice demolition work near the entrance to South Station on Atlantic Avenue. Work will be performed behind construction barriers. Pedestrian travel will be maintained at all times and clearly delineated.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY NEAR THE BUS TERMINAL
In the next few weeks, overnight work will take place at the Bus Terminal, where metal panels will be removed from the exterior, north face of the structure. The purpose of this activity is to accurately locate and survey the future tie-in points of the new expanded terminal into the existing structure.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY IN SUMMER STREET PLAZA AREA
Construction to establish a new ramp is expected to be completed next week.
All upcoming work in this area will be performed behind construction barriers. Pedestrian travel in this area will be maintained at all times and clearly delineated. Access to the CharlieCard validators used for the Fairmount Line will also be maintained.
UPCOMING ACTIVITY NEAR TRACK 13/POST OFFICE
All upcoming work in this area will be performed behind construction barriers. Pedestrian travel in this area will be maintained at all times and clearly delineated. Access to the CharlieCard validators used for the Fairmount Line will also be maintained.
