Suffolk Construction, the contractor for the South Station Air Rights Project, will continue daytime and overnight construction at South Station.
Upcoming Activity on Tracks and Platforms
Starting on Friday, June 26, the contractor will begin work to shorten the tracks, beginning with Tracks 1 and 2. Beginning Monday, June 29, trains on Tracks 1 and 2 will stop approximately one coach length farther away from the headhouse. As trains will stop farther from the station, passengers should plan to arrive five minutes earlier for departing trains. This work will continue for the other tracks throughout the summer. Once the track work is complete in the fall, the tracks will be infilled and the outdoor concourse area expanded, which will allow for increased space for passenger circulation and the establishment of the Tower Work Zone.
During the next 2 weeks, there will be some construction activity during the day along Platform A, adjacent to Track 1. Access along Platform A and to and from the Bus Terminal will be maintained at all times for pedestrians.
Upcoming Activity at the Headhouse
In the next few weeks, the contractor will be working at night to remove the plaster from the overhead canopy that extends from the headhouse over the outdoor concourse area.
Upcoming Activity in Atlantic Avenue Area
Construction of the new ramp on Atlantic Avenue will be completed soon. The older ramp will be closed and demolished as soon as the new ramp is in service, in order to expand the Atlantic Avenue work zone.
During the next few weeks, passersby may notice demolition work near the entrance to South Station on Atlantic Avenue. Work will be performed behind construction barriers. Pedestrian travel will be maintained at all times and clearly delineated.
Upcoming Activity in Summer Street Plaza Area
Construction to establish a new ramp from Summer Street to South Station is ongoing and should be completed by the end of next week. Pedestrian access to the doors entering and exiting the South Station headhouse toward the plaza area will be maintained at all times during this construction. Access to the CharlieCard validators used for the Fairmount Line will also be maintained.
Upcoming Activity Near Track 13/Post Office
Demolition of the canopy adjacent to Track 13, within the construction zone, has been completed.
All upcoming work in this area will be performed behind construction barriers. Pedestrian travel in this area will be maintained at all times and clearly delineated. Access to the CharlieCard validators used for the Fairmount Line will also be maintained.
